Marlins Defeat Braves in First Game Ever Played On United States Military Base

The Marlins beat the Braves in Sunday's game which was played at Fort Bragg

The Miami Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves 5-2 in a game that was played in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The game was the first regular season professional sporting event hosted on a United States military base ever. The field had major league dimensions and a big league atmosphere. The field was made possible by donations from Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association. Following the game, the field will be converted into a softball field and recreational area.

In the stands were members of the military and their families. The pregame festivities featured starting lineup announcements and a fly-over. The presentation of the game was reminiscent of a playoff game, despite it being a regular season contest.

Adam Conley was solid in his six innings on the mound. Miami's starter allowed no runs on four hits while striking out a pair. Conley only walked one while throwing 91 pitches in the contest. The lefty is now 5-5 on the season with a 3.65 E.R.A.

Miami picked up two triples in the game with one coming from Adeiny Hechavarria who now has five on the season. The other three-base hit was collected by Giancarlo Stanton. It was the first triple of the season for Stanton who was 1-4 in the game.

J.T. Realmuto homered in the ninth inning to extend Miami's lead. The homer was the fifth of the year for Realmuto.

Miami will begin a series against the New York Mets on Monday with Tom Koehler set to make the start.
