Two mothers who both lost their son's in school stabbings will speak at a memorial service on Sunday

The mothers of two murdered Miami students are slated to speak Sunday afternoon at a memorial service honoring families of murder victims in Miami-Dade County.

Anais Peinado Cruz and Maria Gough both lost their teenage sons in school stabbings.

Cruz's son, Juan Carlos Rivera, was stabbed to death by another student during a fight in at Coral Gables High School in 2009.

Cruz flew from Cuba to Miami when her son was murdered on campus.

"I feel a great pain that breaks in my heart," Cruz said shortly after her son's death. "My God, how could you have done this to me?"

Her son's killer was found guilty last month of second-degree murder.

"I feel very sorry for him, I just feel sorry for a young person who has destroyed life," Cruz said of her son's killer. "I cannot believe someone would do something like that."

Gough's son, Jamie, was stabbed to death in a bathroom stall at Southwood Middle School in 2004.

The event is organized by the Crime Victims Resource Network in conjunction with families of murdered victims.

It "gives families the opportunity to honor their loved ones and recognize the impact of surviving family members," said CVRN founder Maritza Lopez.

The ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Tropical Park in Miami.
