Miami Beach Celebrates 100 Years With 100 New Citizens

100 people were sworn in as new U.S. citizens Wednesday as part of the City of Miami Beach’s centennial celebration.

Miami-Beach turns 100 on Thursday and as part of the centennial celebration, 100 people gathered Wednesday to become naturalized U.S. citizens.

Beating the sweltering heat, participants and their families went through the process of becoming U.S. citizens Wednesday afternoon.

Among the participants were Johana Soto who celebrated the day with her two young daughters who are already citizens.

"Very very very very happy," Soto exclaimed.

Her daughters, Loureen and Loren, expressed how proud they were of their mom, and how excited they were about the doors this will open up for their family.

"Now that she reached her goal, she can go where she came from," said Loureen. "We're all really happy that we can travel now."

"She has been working hard a lot," added younger daughter Loren. "She wanted to become a citizen, and now she is a citizen!"
