Miami Police Wash the Feet of the Homeless on Good Friday

Good Friday was observed in South Florida, with Miami police officers washing the feet of the homeless and other events.

In a display of servanthood on this Easter weekend, Miami Police Department took part in the foot-washing tradition.

Officer James Bernat spent Good Friday with the homeless at the Miami Rescue Mission for its Thanksgiving Good Friday Serve-a-Thon.

In the Holy Bible, Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples as a display of humility. Officer Bernat emulated the selfless act by washing the feet of a homeless person.

Bernat is part of Miami Police Department's Homeless Outreach Team and works closely with the City of Miami Homeless Shelter program.

The officer posted a picture to Twitter Friday of him washing the feet of a wheelchair-bound individual. Dozens of volunteers participated in the annual event to provide food, medical and foot care to the individuals in need.

A day before, Pope Francis washed the feet of a dozen inmates at a maximum security prison in a pre-Easter ritual.
