At least six inmates in Florida have used forged documents in attempts to escape from prison, including two killers who were mistakenly freed because of the paperwork, authorities said Tuesday. NBC 6’s Justin Finch reports.
More arrests have been made related to the case of a pair of convicted murderers who were mistakenly released from a Florida prison.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is scheduled to announce the arrests at a news conference Thursday afternoon.
Authorities say Joseph Jenkins and Charles Walker used forged court documents to get released from Carrabelle Prison in the Florida Panhandle. Jenkins was let out Sept. 27 while Walker was freed Oct. 8.
They were captured days later at a Panama City motel.
The pair were both serving life sentences for murder out of Orange County. The fake paperwork reduced their life sentences to 15 years.
