Police Confirm Miami Cop Killed in Pembroke Pines Home

NBC 6’s Jamie Guirola has the details of what Pembroke Pines Police found when they made a welfare check at a home with a Miami Police cruiser in front.

Pembroke Pines Police confirmed Saturday that a Miami Police officer was killed at his Pembroke Pines home a day earlier.

Authorities identified the officer as 52-year-old Carl Ronald Patrick, an army reservist who served with the Miami Police Department for 25 years.

Officers responded to Patrick's home on the 2100 block of NW 93rd Avenue just after 2 p.m Friday to perform a welfare check.

When they arrived they found a Miami Police cruiser in the driveway and when they entered the home, they found Patrick's body.

Investigators said the death was the result of a gunshot wound and they are classifying the death as a homicide.

Others in the neighborhood said they were rattled by Friday’s discovery.

“You can see all the neighbors out were very close,” said David Siegel. “Close neighborhood here and when something happens, we like to find out what’s going on. You know it’s a shame that this happened.”

Siegel continued, “Usually, when something does happen in this neighborhood, we all try and come together and help each other out.”

No further details were immediately released by officers, who said the investigation would continue at the residence throughout the day.
