Joshua Dumas, 33, provided false information to a patrol officer at a gas station before he jumped into a silver Chrysler and drove away, Miami-Dade Police said. The vehicle’s owner, Monique McKellar, and witness Santiago Rebollo and Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Javier Baez spoke about the pursuit.
Police said they detained a man with an extensive criminal record after a pursuit in northwest Miami-Dade County Friday morning.
Joshua Dumas, 33, provided false information to a patrol officer at a gas station at NW 87th Street and NW 27th Avenue before he bolted away in a silver Chrysler that was left with its engine running, Miami-Dade Police said.
As he drove he struck an occupied civilian vehicle several times but kept going, according to police. After a brief chase he crashed through two fences on NW 33rd Avenue.
"I noticed the gentleman turning, the police bumped him, and he crashed into my neighbor’s house here," witness Santiago Rebollo said. "Shortly after he tried to run away but he didn’t make it far."
The Chrysler's owner, Monique McKellar, was taken by surprise by the incident.
"I went into the gas station, came out, and I was just standing in line, I saw the car taking off. And this is where we end up," she said.
Police said no one was injured and that charges are pending.

"He has served time for murder, has a robbery past, cocaine past, theft charges," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Javier Baez said. "This individual clearly has a complete and utter disregard for the community."
