Police Investigating Fatal Fight in Tamarac

A fight turned fatal in Tamarac after one man, who was beating another man with a gun, dropped that gun. The other man then picked up the gun and shot his attacker.

A fight between two men turned fatal in Tamarac Sunday evening after one of the men dropped a gun, and the other picked it up and shot him.

Police responded to the scene of the shooting at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Woodland Meadows apartment complex at 5780 N.W. 60th Avenue in Tamarac.

Witnesses say Gregory Meeks, 30, a resident at the complex, and Orine Edwards, 31, of Lauderhill began arguing in the courtyard between the buildings. The argument soon escalated and witnesses say that Meeks began to pistol whip Edwards with a gun.

The men struggled and Meeks lost control of the weapon. That's when Edwards picked it up and fired a shot at Meeks, killing him.

Edwards remained at the scene and cooperated with police.  His injuries were consistent with witness accounts.

Edwards is not facing any charges at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
