NBC 6’s Johnny Archer has more on the the driver who was arrested after he led authorities on a cross-county chase.
A driver was taken into custody after authorities were involved a high-speed pursuit in South Florida Friday afternoon.
The chase of a suspect wanted for assault on a law enforcement officer started in Hollywood and moved into Miami-Dade, officials said.
Hollywood Police officials said officers responded to a report of a man who tried to use a fraudulent check at a check cashing store on N. 28th Avenue.
Officers found the man in a blue Honda and asked him to exit the car but he refused and struck one officer as he fled the scene, officials said.
Footage showed officers pursuing the car that was speeding through traffic and refused to stop.
The pursuit went through Miami Gardens, Opa-locka and northwest Miami-Dade and involved officers from Miami-Dade Police, Broward Sheriff's Office, Hollywood Police, Fort Lauderdale Police and the Florida Highway Patrol.
The car finally stopped and the driver and passenger were taken into custody in the area of Northwest 68th Terrace and 15th Avenue in Miami-Dade.
The passenger was later released. The officer struck by the suspect's car in Hollywood wasn't seriously hurt.
Theodore Griffin, 56, was taken into custody. He has a criminal history, including 35 felonies that range from battery on law enforcement, fleeing, burglary and narcotics, according to Hollywood police.
