A police officer was hospitalized Wednesday after getting struck by a hit-and-run driver in southwest Miami-Dade.
A Miami-Dade police officer was hospitalized and a driver was arrested after a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night, officials said.
The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. near a ramp to the Palmetto Expressway at Coral Way.
Footage from the scene showed the front end of a Miami-Dade Police cruiser completely wrecked.
Miami-Dade Police officials said the officer was attempting to make a left turn when another vehicle ran a red light and struck them at a high rate of speed. The driver took off, then bailed out of his car near a business and a park.

Authorities set up a perimeter to find the driver but instead found the abandoned car. Investigators were then able to track the suspect down in his home.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Yasmany Jaime Ulloa.
He is facing charges for leaving the scene of a crash. It was also discovered he doesn't have a valid driver's license, police said.

The officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to recover.
The crash caused around $35,000 in damages, police said.
