Section 8 Program Waiting List Opens in Hialeah, Website Experiences Delays

The Hialeah Housing Authority’s website was experiencing delays Friday after opening its waiting list for the Section 8 Program. NBC 6’s Ari Odzer reports.

The Hialeah Housing Authority's website was experiencing delays Friday after opening its waiting list for the Section 8 Program.

An "overwhelming response" to the application process caused the delays Friday, shortly after the online application process began at 9 a.m., City of Hialeah spokesperson Francys Vallecillo said.

"We urge residents to continue visiting the website," Vallecillo said in a statement.

As a result of the delays, the hours to apply are being extended throughout the weekend and until Monday at 3 p.m. 2,500 applications will be selected through a random lottery.

Applications are available online at www.hialeahhousing.org. Those who don't have access to a computer can complete the application at their local library. The only library open during the weekend is the JFK Library at 190 West 49th Street, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and is closed on Sunday.

Selected families will be notified by June 27.
