Teen Suspect in Custody After Crashing Car Stolen With Child Inside in NW Miami-Dade

A 15-year-old suspect is facing charges after police say he crashed a car he stole with a baby inside in northwest Miami-Dade.

A 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody after crashing a car that had been stolen with a child inside and fleeing into a northwest Miami-Dade Home Depot Thursday, authorities said.

The initial car theft happened in the 18300 block of Northwest 85th Avenue, and the crash happened off Northwest 57th Avenue.

The suspect fled into the nearby Home Depot, where he was taken into custody. The child wasn't injured and was reunited with his mother.

Miami-Dade Police officials said it appears the mother had left the car running with the young child in the back seat outside her home.

The suspect took the car with the baby in the back seat, but a short time later an officer spotted the car.

The car crashed and the suspect fled the scene on foot but was quickly caught, police said.

Police said the teen faces charges including grand theft auto and kidnapping.
