Swimmer Missing Off Panhandle Beach

Officials say the search for a swimmer missing off a Florida Panhandle beach has become a search and recovery mission.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff's spokesman Rich Aloy says the search for 28-year-old Christopher Beal of Crestview was suspended Tuesday evening because of inclement weather.

Aloy tells the Northwest Florida Daily News the recovery mission will continue on Wednesday.

Beal went missing early Tuesday while swimming near the Navarre Beach pier. Officials say he got caught in a rip current.

Emergency management operations chief Tom Lloyd says red flags were flying at the beach on Tuesday, warning swimmers of dangerous rip currents.
