Teen Arrested in 7-Eleven Clerk Shooting: Miami-Dade Police

Female clerk in stable condition after Monday's armed robbery shooting

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man who they say shot a 7-Eleven clerk during an armed robbery in southwest Miami-Dade.

Tavis Ernest Williams was arrested early Tuesday on charges including attempted second-degree murder and armed robbery in Monday's shooting at the 7-Eleven at 13690 Southwest 268th Street, Miami-Dade Police said.

According to an arrest report, an anonymous tip led them to Williams, who later confessed his involvement in the shooting to detectives.

The report said the female clerk, identified as Cherish Juarez, was working at the register when Williams entered the store, pointed a gun at her and demanded money from the register.

"I'm not f---ing playing give me the money," he said, according to the report.

At one point, Williams shot the woman in the arm, but the bullet went through her arm and into her chest, the report said. Juarez underwent emergency surgery and was in stable condition.

Williams got into a struggle with a male clerk and was able to take cash from the register before fleeing the scene, the report said. There were several customers in the store but no other injuries were reported.

The report said an anonymous citizen gave Williams' name as a possible suspect in the shooting, and he was detained on an unrelated narcotics case. He later confessed to the shooting and was identified as the gunman by three witnesses, the report said.

Williams was being held without bond Tuesday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
