Cristobal Becomes a Hurricane, Stays Away From South Florida

Cristobal became a hurricane Monday night and continued to pose no threat to South Florida as it was expected to turn toward the east.

As of 8:20 p.m., Cristobal had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph as it moved at about 2 mph about 665 miles southwest of Bermuda, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

A tropical storm watch was in effect for Bermuda.

Cristobal is expected to turn toward the northeast with a gradual increase in forward speed. Cristobal's center is forecast to move away from the Bahamas through Tuesday and pass to the west and north of Bermuda on Wednesday.
