It was the second-to-last last dive of her storied collegiate career, and Brittany Viola made it count.
An Armstand Back 2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Free moved the University of Miami senior into first place at the NCAA finals in Austin Saturday, clinching her second national championship on the 10-meter platform.
"I am ecstatic to have won another NCAA Championship title," said the Orlando native, who also won a national title at the same event in 2008.
"Being able to compete at NCAA's was a gift in itself, after sitting out with two foot surgeries over the course of the last year and a half."
Viola's first of five dives nabbed the highest score of the competition. Judges awarded her Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Pike an 81.00, a point above the third dive that helped her retake -- and never give relinquish -- first place.
"I could not have hoped to have my collegiate diving career wrap-up any different," she said. "I am overjoyed!"
Teammate Carrie Dragland finished third in the finals, helping the Miami diving program to its 42 All-American honor in the last 10 years.
