A University of Miami football player was airlifted to the hospital after suffering an injury at practice Wednesday.
Linebacker Marques Gayot was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.
"A University of Miami football student-athlete suffered an injury during practice and was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons," team spokesman Tom Symonds said in a statement.
Team officials said Gayot suffered a neck injury. He underwent a battery of tests and will stay in the hospital overnight for precaution.
Gayot will be placed in a neck collar and will be released Thursday morning. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Gayot is a sophomore linebacker from Lake Worth. He's played in all three Hurricanes games so far this season.
