Actress and recording artist Janell Monáe says she identifies as a "queer black woman in America" in a revealing new profile in Rolling Stones.
"Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf-----,"she says. Monáe initially identified as bisexual, but said she later read about pansexuality. "These are things that I identify with too.' I'm open to learning more about who I am."
Monáe, who rose to fame as a performer in 2010 behind her first full-length studio album The ArchAndroid, in recent years has branched out into acting, most recently performing in "Hidden Figures" and the 2016 Oscar winner "Moonlight."
