NYC Man Gets New Heart for the Holidays

It started as a regular cold, and within a month, 30-year-old Michael Modica of Staten Island was near death. Doctors found out Modica’s heart had grown to twice its normal size, and he desperately needed a transplant. He’d expected to wait for up to two years for a new heart — but got an unexpected phone call at 3 a.m. Adam Kuperstein reports.
