Oscar Rivera Freed After Decades in Custody

Oscar Lopez Rivera, the Puerto Rican nationalist and one of the longest-serving political prisoners in U.S. history, has been released from house arrest in Puerto Rico. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison in 1981 for his role in a violent struggle for Puerto Rico’s independence from the U.S. “I come to fight and to work”… “I believe my sprit, my dignity and my honor are so much more unharmed today than the day I went to prison.”
