‘Killing Gunther' Star Taran Killam on Working With Arnold Schwarzenegger

Harry: “Tell me how you got Arnold Schwarzenegger in this movie?” Taran: “Through violence actually. No, it was so crazy….He’s so funny he comes in at the end. It was sort of written as a reveal cameo and the second Arnold comes on board like there’s no secrets anymore. Everybody wants to hear about it and talk to him and he actually was pitched to us and I remember they said, ‘You know Arnold Schwarzenegger is interested in doing a comedy like this.’ I was like no way, that can’t be real. Does he realize we are doing this dum little comedy and they said, ‘Yeah, he loves that.’ So I facetimed with him and we talked about the script and the first time we got together he was on the phone sitting at his desk smoking a cigar in front of 6 foot tall oil painting of himself from the pumping iron days like, ‘Taran, hey that’s the before this is the after.’ So great. So good. “ Harry: “How did you get him to do some of that stuff man?” Taran: “The first day on set we put him in booty shorts and a tankini and he couldn’t have been more at ease and everybody else was so nervous because this is a former Governor of California, biggest action star of all time….I am so under-accomplished compared to that man, he’s just very kind and generous with his time and a professional and had a lot of input and came prepared. I was spoiled.” For full interviews, check out “Harry.”
