Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston will have a tough time following up his first season in Tallahassee, but according to his father, he’ll have two more seasons under Jimbo Fisher to try to win another Heisman Trophy and National Championship.
Winston’s father, Antonor Winston, told AL.com that Jameis will play one more season of baseball and two more years of football in Tallahassee. “We’ve never strayed from our plan that he is going to be in college until he gets that degree,” Antonor told AL.com.
Jameis won the Heisman Trophy last season as a redshirt freshman and if he follows-through with his father’s plan, he would play the 2014 and 2015 seasons in Tallahassee before leaving school as a redshirt junior for the 2016 NFL Draft.
Still, Winston has been projected to be one of the top available NFL draft prospects in next year’s draft and he may be one of the top prospects available in next year’s Major League Baseball draft as well. Winston posted a 1-0 record with a 1.08 ERA and seven saves as a pitcher for the Seminoles this season.
If Winston is a projected top five pick in either or both drafts, the family may face a tough decision of keeping him in school and turning down millions of dollars or letting him go pro in whatever sport he chooses.
