Angry Outburst From MMA Fighter During Court Appearance

One day after leading police on a manhunt that included shutdown close to a half dozen schools in the Hialeah area, a 29-year-old MMA fighter from the area found out he will be staying behind bars for the time being. John Chavez was in bond court Thursday morning where he faces two charges for aggravated assault and burglary. While he was given bond on those charges, a previous bond for a felony charge was revoked – which will keep Chavez locked up until trial. Chavez became agitated during the hearing, arguing with Judge Mindy Glazer to the point where she had his microphone cut off and officers escort him from the holding area. After reports of a domestic violence issue at his home, Hialeah Police attempted to capture Chavez – who reportedly has a history of mental illness as well as a criminal record – but he escaped onto the grounds of a local elementary school before being captured hours later outside a nearby home.

Jewish Israeli Is Primary Suspect in JCC Bomb Threats

Israeli police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old Israeli Jewish man as the primary suspect in a string of bomb threats targeting Jewish community centers and other institutions in the U.S., marking a potential breakthrough in the case after an international manhunt with the FBI. A spokesman for Israel's public defender's office told NBC New York that the suspect suffered from a brain tumor and police have been ordered to have a medical expert evaluate him. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld described the suspect as a hacker, but said his motives were still unclear. Police banned publication of his name, but said he was an American-Israeli dual citizen and that he would remain in custody until at least March 30. FBI and Justice Department officials confirmed the arrest and told NBC News he made all the calls from his bedroom.

Health Bill Vote Delayed in House in Setback to Trump, Ryan
Health Bill Vote Delayed in House in Setback to Trump, Ryan

GOP House leaders delayed their planned vote Thursday on a long-promised bill to repeal and replace "Obamacare," in a stinging setback for House Speaker Paul Ryan and President Donald Trump in their first major legislative test. The decision came after Trump, who ran as a master dealmaker, failed to reach agreement with a bloc of rebellious conservatives. Moderate-leaning Republican lawmakers were also bailing on the legislation, leaving it short of votes. The bill could still come to a vote in coming days, but canceling Thursday's vote was a significant defeat. It came on the seven-year anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Affordable Care Act, years that Republicans have devoted to promising repeal.
