Wildlife officials and police say a pygmy sperm whale found beached in Delray Beach will not survive.

Police said Wednesday it was not immediately known what was wrong with the whale or why it beached itself. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will take custody of the whale.

The whale is about eight feet long. It will likely be taken to the Palm Beach Zoo, officials there say.
