A former Miami cop has pleaded no contest to charges that accused him of killing a bloodhound trained to find missing people.
Rondal Brown, 51, changed his plea Tuesday and will not go to jail for animal cruelty.
Brown allegedly starved his K-9 partner, Dynasty, to death in 2007.
Instead of jail, Brown will serve a year of probation and make a $1,00 donation to the Animal Services Trust Fund and pay court costs.
Dynasty was just 33 pounds when she died - half of what she weighed less than a year earlier.
Vets said the trained dog probably hadn't eaten in a month and had no body fat at the time of her death. Malnutrition was ruled as the cause of death.
As a part of the plea deal, Brown also had to forfeit his law enforcement certificate and can't work for the city of Miami again.
