2 Carjacking Suspects in Custody After Search: Pembroke Pines Police

Two teenagers in a Pembroke Pines carjacking were taken into custody after a police search Friday night.

A 16-year-old and and 17-year-old are accused of carjacking 50-year-old Diego Rodriguez Friday night, along the 300 block of Southwest 67 Terrace in Pembroke Pines, police said.

Authorities said Rodriguez was driving a 2016 Ford Explorer when the driver of blue Chevrolet sedan overtook the Rodriguez’s vehicle and forced him to stop. The armed teens then carjacked Rodriguez and fled in the Ford Explorer. The driver of the blue Chevrolet also drove away.

Pembroke Pines police spotted the Ford Explorer and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop. While fleeing from police, the Ford Explorer crashed into another motorist in Miramar. The crash resulted in minor property damage and no injuries were reported. The suspects abandoned the Ford Explorer and fled.

Pembroke Pines Police said the suspects fled to a Miramar neighborhood where they were both taken into custody. At one point, police had warned residents in the area of 79th Street and Indigo Street to shelter in place.

Authorities are urging the community to contact Pembroke Pines Police Department with any information relative to the blue Chevrolet sedan, or its driver.

No other information was immediately known.
