After a Year, Fla. Lawmakers Try to Fix Medical Marijuana Plan

Florida passed a bill allowing medical marijuana a year ago, but the cancer patients and children with seizures it was intended to help still don't have access to the drug.

A new bill seeking to fix that is moving through the Legislature but ran into objections in a committee meeting Tuesday.

The bill makes more sick people eligible, and its sponsor, Sen. Rob Bradley, said it establishes time limits for rulemaking to end the delays that have kept the products off the market so far.

But marijuana backers object because the bill doesn't allow marijuana containing the euphoria-causing chemicals they say some patients need, and a group of black farmers objected to requirements they said would shut them out of the industry.

Bradley promised amendments to solve that problem.
