Authorities are investigating after a mail box was blown up at a Miami home early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident happened just before 5 a.m. at a duplex in the 5200 block of Northwest 4th Street when authorities responded to a call of an explosion in the area, Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.

The explosion was later determined to have been an "acid bomb" that was placed in the mailbox, which is detached from the duplex, Carroll said.

The acid bomb was made with unknown liquids put into some kind of plastic bottle, Carroll said.

No one was reported injured.

Fire Rescue crews and Miami Police responded to the scene and state fire marshals are also taking part in the investigation, Carroll said.

Neighbor Ariel Roman said he woke up around dawn to investigators looking over the mailbox.

"They say it was some kind of bottle, a kid's joke or something but actuallt I have no idea what happened," Roman said.

Even if it's a prank, they're taking it seriously, Carroll said.

"This took some time, this is not something as simple as, put some chemicals in a bottle, throw it in a mailbox," Carroll said. "If it is a prank, this was a very serious prankthat could have hurt somebody."
