Toddler Hospitalized After Fall From Balcony in Hialeah

A young child was airlifted to a hospital after falling from the fourth floor balcony of a Hialeah apartment building Friday morning.

The incident happened at the apartment complex at 6975 W. 16th Avenue.

“His mother came knocking on my door like all worried and she was crying because he like, fell off the fourth floor,” said neighbor Nayahliz Ruiz.

A man acme to rescue the child after he fell from the balcony, neighbors said.

“When he grabbed the kid, he was moving and crying and I see his face with sand and scratches and his lips were like this and purple,” said Ruiz.

The 2-year-old child was conscious and alert but suffered some facial injuries and was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, Hialeah Fire Rescue officials said.

Hialeah Police said the entire incident appears to be an accident.

“A grandma, mom, and an aunt and somehow, very quickly, he got away from them,” said Hialeah Police Detective Carl Zogby. “They claim that for seconds they left the sliding glass door that leads to the balcony and he must have run out without them noticing and fell over.”

Police don’t expect to file any charges and the child is expected to be okay.
