Customers Stopped Armed Robber at Coral Gables Store: Police

A man arrested in a armed robbery at a Coral Gables store after customers stepped in and stopped him made his first appearance in court Monday.

Jovon Reddick, 32, is charged with armed robbery in the Saturday robbery at the Down Stairs store.

Surveillance cameras captured the moment when police say Reddick, wearing a black hooded coat, walked in pointing a gun. But two customers were having none of it and fought back, grabbing and holding the armed robber until the police got there.

"I'd like to ask you if I could have a bond being that I got to take care of my dog and my mom at home," Reddick said in court Monday.

Reddick having a prior criminal record made it impossible for the judge to set a bond. Besides, armed robbery with a deadly weapon is a very serious charge, carrying a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted.

Reddick will be brought back to the courthouse in about a month for his arraignment where he'll enter a plea to the criminal charges against him.
