Dolphins Dominated by Bills in Home Opener

The Dolphins were easily beaten by the Buffalo Bills in their first home game of the year

The Miami Dolphins lost a second straight game when the Buffalo Bills came away 41-14 winners on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.

This was the first game of the year for Miami and marked its first lopsided loss. After narrowly beating Washington in their first game, the Dolphins were beaten late by Jacksonville a week later. Miami is now 1-2 and sits in last place in the division.

Things looked bleak for Miami fast once again as Buffalo jumped out to a quick lead. The theme of the season has been poor starts for Miami's defense. That continued in this loss as the Dolphins were unable to stop Buffalo's offense. Combined with an inefficient offense, Miami found itself on defense too often.

After entering the game with no interceptions through two games, Ryan Tannehill threw three picks in this one alone. Tannehill's first interception came on a deflected pass and the issues only continued from there. Miami's quarterback was 26-49 for 297 yards and two touchdowns. Rishard Matthews came down with both TD passes.

Part of the problem for Miami this year has been a poor running game. Things didn't improve much in Sunday's loss with most of the yards coming in the fourth quarter. Trailing by 27, Miami began to run the ball almost exclusively which padded some paltry numbers. Jonas Gray led the ground attack with 49 yards on nine carries. As a team, the Dolphins had 102 yards on the ground.

Adding insult to injury in this one was the play of former Miami kicker Dan Carpenter. While facing his old team, Carpenter nailed two field goals including a 51 yarder.

The Dolphins will head out of the country for next week's game in London. Miami will be considered the home team when it hosts the New York Jets at Wembley Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
