Fort Myers Mother, Newborn Baby Remain Hospitalized After Being Struck by Lightning

A Fort Myers mother remains in critical condition after being struck by lightning last week while nine months pregnant – and those close to the victim continue to pray for her improvement.

NBC affiliate WBBH-TV reports that Meghan Davidson has shown some signs of improvement at Lee Memorial Hospital, but the mother of three remains in intensive care.

"Meghan is showing signs of improvement. They have lowered the amount of oxygen that she is getting and they have lowered the sedation," said Carol Bridges, a member of the church that Davidson and her family attend. The McGregor Baptist Church held a vigil Sunday for Davidson and her family.

Davidson was struck while walking outside her home with her mother last Thursday. Seven days from her due date, doctors delivered her newest child, Owen. The baby’s condition is unknown.

The station is reporting that she has been able to react with her eyes when family speaks to her, but no official updates have been given by the hospital.
