Israeli Consulate Event in Miami Beach Canceled Over Threats

The Consulate General of Israel in Miami said Thursday's Balfour Declaration event in Miami Beach was canceled due to threats.

"Due to threats and pursuant to local law enforcement instructions the event planned for tonight commemorating the 100 years of the Balfour Declaration has been canceled," the agency said in a statement.

The Balfour Declaration was the British government's formal endorsement of the establishment of a Jewish state.

The canceled "Balfour Declaration and the Making of the Modern Middle East" event was organized by Consulate General of the United Kingdom, the Consulate General of Israel, Florida International University, the American Jewish Committee and the Jewish Museum of Florida.

FIU later revealed the event was canceled due to a threat made by a student.
