Man Charged In Eviction Shooting Out of Hospital

Joseph Richer behind bars, faces murder charges in South Beach shooting

The man accused of shooting and killing a maintenance worker who was helping police serve an eviction notice is out of the hospital and behind bars, records show.

Joseph Richer, 44, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder on a law enforcement officer and attempted felony murder with a deadly weapon for firing his .357 revolver at a group that arrived at his condo unit to evict him on Nov. 22.

Alberto Gomez, who had just started working at Royal Atlantic Condominiums on South Beach, was hit with one of the bullets and died.

Richer had been in critical condition in the hospital after he was shot by one of the cops who was serving the eviction notice. It's unknown when he was transferred from the hospital to the correctional center.

Richer's father, Charles, was the person that ordered police to kick his son out of the unit.

As a locksmith picked the lock to the apartment, an angry Richer allegedly opened the door and opened fire. Gomez was standing near the locksmith and was hit. Another man was hit in the hand.
