Man Shot During Road Rage Confrontation in Sarasota

A 22-year-old Sarasota man is accused of shooting a motorist during a road rage incident.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says Christian Gunter was driving his motorcycle on Monday night when he got into a confrontation with 59-year-old Roger Atlas. The two men pulled onto the side of U.S. 41 and had an argument.

During the confrontation, deputies say Gunter pulled a handgun and shot Atlas in the abdomen.

According to a news release, Atlas was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

Gunter is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. Jail records don't indicate whether he's hired an attorney.
