Miami Beach Police Trying to ID Body Found Under Dock

Miami Beach Police has a mystery on its hands after a body was discovered under a dock on Di Lido Drive.

“Police tied him to this police so he wouldn’t float away,” said 11-year-old Brooke Lanster.

Lanster was having a sleepover when Miami Beach Police began to show up to the dock behind her house. According to Miami Beach Police, a neighbor had reported seeing the floating body in Biscayne Bay. But, it wasn’t until Sunday morning when it was spotted wedged in the area.

“I go to the back door and I see these three people outsides and I don’t know who they are and I open the back door and I say, ‘Excuse me, what are you doing’ and they told me they’re police,” Lanster said.

Lanster told NBC 6’s Jamie Guirola she was officers, “pull the dead body” onto a boat. The body was so badly decomposed, an identification still hasn’t been made. Police said it was a man in his mid-50’s and stood about 5-foot 8-inches tall.

“They were looking for the body throughout the day and then my neighbor found the person floating in the water and then he ended up at my house," Lanster said. “It was kind of weird, really scary. My friends were freaking out."

The body was taken to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
