Suspect Arrested After Police-Involved Shooting in Fort Lauderdale

A suspect was in custody after a police-involved shooting that ended in a crash in Fort Lauderdale Tuesday.

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. in the 600 block of Northwest 11th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale Police officials said.

The investigation revealed the officer was at the location conducting an investigation into individuals trespassing on the property.

As the officer attempted to speak with the suspect, he became uncooperative and fled from the officer on foot. Shortly after, police said he fled in a silver Ford Mustang that was parked on the property.

As the suspect fled from the location, with the vehicle in reverse, the suspect steered the rear of the vehicle in the direction of the officer multiple times, resulting in the trunk of the vehicle physically coming into contact with the officer. At this point, investigators said the officer fired his weapon but did not strike the suspect.

The suspect then fled from the area, driving in a reckless manner and ultimately colliding with an uninvolved motorist at Northwest 31st Avenue and 6th Street.

Following the crash, the suspect fled from the scene on foot, after which he was taken into custody several blocks away.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Danny Phillip Walker of Lauderhill. He has been charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, trespassing, disorderly conduct, among others.

The officer involved was transported to Plantation General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He has been placed on administrative leave as part of protocol for officers involved in shootings.
