Before going off to deliver presents, Santa Claus took a detour in the Florida Keys for a scuba diving expedition.

Dive shop operator Spencer Slate, who moonlights as the jolly St. Nick once a year, took the plunge down to Elbow Reef for a swim with the fish Tuesday.

Like Santa Claus, Slate's expedition is all in the spirit of giving. He dons the outfit each year and allows dive customers to take a photo with him for an extra fee. The proceeds go to a local children's charity to fund gifts during the holiday season.
