A South Dade Senior High School physical education teacher was arrested for lewd and lascivious battery after he took a 15-year-old student for a ride off school grounds, gave her a marijuana cigarette that she smoked, and had her perform oral sex on him, police said.

Jimmy Vega, 32, of Kendall was arrested Wednesday for the Feb. 22 incident, Miami-Dade Police said.

On that afternoon he spoke with the girl, who is a student at the Homestead school, and after she got into his grey SUV he drove them to a secluded area in South Dade where he gave her the marijuana cigarette, according to police. Soon after she smoked it, the two began to kiss, with Vega fondling her before she performed oral sex on him, police said.

Police said that Vega, when he was found at the high school on Wednesday, “admitted his involvement with the victim.”

Vega’s parents told NBC 6 Wednesday that he had called them to tell them he was arrested but did not say why. When a NBC 6 reporter told them, they said they were sure it was not true, that their son would never do such a thing and that the student is lying.

Vega, who according to corrections records was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail at 5:19 p.m. on $7,500 bond, called his parents during the conversation and told them he was getting a bondsman.

A school district spokesman said the school will address Vega's arrest once he leaves jail.
