Tropical Storm Ida Expected to Stall in Atlantic

Tropical Storm Ida is expected to stall in the open Atlantic and is not a threat to land.

The storm's maximum sustained winds Monday were near 50 mph (80 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says little change in strength is expected over the next couple of days. It is forecast to slow down and change position very little in the coming days.

Ida is centered about 950 miles (1,530 kilometers) east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and is moving north-northwest near 7 mph (11 kph).

Meanwhile, a tropical depression that moved from the Pacific over Mexico has dissipated. However, that depression's remnants continue to bring heavy rains to parts of Mexico and Arizona and New Mexico in the U.S.
