Marlins Waste Strong Effort From Koehler in Loss

Tom Koehler struck out ten hitters on Wednesday but it wasn't enough as the Marlins fell 4-3

The Miami Marlins dropped a game and a series on Wednesday in their 4-3 loss to the New York Mets.

Tom Koehler struck out a career high ten hitters across seven innings of work. The right-hander allowed a pair of runs on five hits and four walks. Both of the runs came on one swing when Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a long home run to the upper deck in right field.

Koehler came away with a no-decision when the Marlins tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. The loss was charged to Mike Dunn as two runs went on his line in only a third of an inning. Dunn exited with a pair of runners on base and Bryan Morris allowed both to score when he entered.

Giancarlo Stanton provided one of the positive offensive moments in the game for Miami when he hit his 36th home run of the season in the eighth inning. It was the third game in a row that Stanton homered in.

Stanton's career high for home runs in a year is 37 which came in 2012. Wednesday's blast was also the 153rd career home run for Stanton. The current franchise record is 154 home runs by Dan Uggla.

Earlier in the game, Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled for the 19th time this year and Adeiny Hachavarria added his 18th two-bagger. Runs batted in were collected by Casey McGehee (65) and Christian Yelich (50). The home run by Stanton gave him 102 RBI on the season.

The Marlins are off on Thursday and will start a series on Friday against the Atlanta Braves. Jarred Cosart is scheduled to be on the mound for the opener.
