Sheli Muñiz

Sheli Muñiz is an Emmy® award-winning journalist who joined the NBC6 News team in December 2015. Muñiz anchors the NBC6 News at 12pm and NBC6 News at 4pm, alongside NBC6 anchor Roxanne Vargas. She previously anchored NBC6 Today at 5am and 6am.

Before joining NBC6, Muñiz worked as an anchor and reporter at WKMG-News 6 (CBS) in Orlando, Florida. While in Orlando, she covered stories that garnered national attention: a sinkhole that swallowed a man in his Seffner home, a mother of three accused of driving her children into the Atlantic, and the George Zimmerman murder trial. In the summer of 2015, Muñiz spent a week in Cuba to report on the U.S. and Cuba policy change.

Her passion for television began in the library of her elementary school in Georgia - the location of a makeshift studio – where she was the morning show anchor covering hard-hitting stories like the lunch menu.

Muñiz is a proud University of Florida graduate, whose passion for journalism led her to WRDW in Augusta, Georgia, where she was promoted to weekend anchor in the first month. The Georgia Association of Broadcasters has recognized her for her exclusive interview with an accused serial rapist who led multiple agencies on a three-county manhunt. She was also honored with a Georgia AP Broadcasters Award for “Best Feature Reporting”.

In 2020, Muñiz was honored with an Emmy® Award for her coverage of the 2019 historic protests in Puerto Rico, that ultimately led to the governor's resignation. In 2017, Sheli and her former co-anchor, Eric Harryman, won a Florida AP Broadcaster award for “Outstanding News Anchor Team”.

In December of 2020, Muñiz also completed a master's degree at Florida International University for global strategic communications with a graduate certificate in conflict resolution and consensus building.

Muñiz feels blessed to be in South Florida where she can tell her community's stories. She says her greatest reward is her family, being a wife and mom and the ability to drive a short distance to West Palm Beach for her mom's Arroz con Gandules. Speaking of food, she loves it and is always on the lookout for great restaurants. So, any suggestions? Send them over.
