Miami-Dade Police confirmed a second arrest in the mysterious death of a man whose body was found last week in his southwest Miami-Dade home.
Officials say 19-year-old Demar Turruellas was charged with second degree murder as well as other offenses, according to an arrest report, in the death of 63-year-old Evelio Federico Gainza.
The arrest comes after Gainza's 17-year-old daughter, Eveline Gainza, was charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with physical evidence.
Officials received a call to do a welfare check early Thursday on the home near Southwest 161st Street and Southwest 141st Avenue and discovered Gainza's body after finding a broken sliding glass door.
According to a police report, Turruellas had been dating Gainza's daughter and the two had been living in Southwest Florida before returning to Miami-Dade County and living with the girl's mother, who was divorced from Gainza.
Officials say Gainza picked up his daughter to come take items from his home on September 24th. Shortly after, police say the teen snuck out and stole her father's car to pick up Turruellas and return to the home where Gainza was shot in the back multiple times before the teens dragged his body into a bedroom and hid it with towels and blankets while attempting to clean up the blood.
Police found both Turruellas and Gainza's daughter, who both confessed to their roles in the crime.
