Canadian Pleads Not Guilty in Florida Sex Tourist Case

Roberge was ordered held without bail until trial as a risk of flight and danger to the community.

A Canadian man has pleaded not guilty to U.S. charges that he traveled to Florida to have sex with someone authorities say he thought was an underage boy.

Rene Roberge of Sherbrooke, Quebec, entered the plea Friday before a Fort Lauderdale federal judge. Roberge was also ordered held without bail until trial as a risk of flight and danger to the community.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Roberge flew to Florida after making contact with undercover investigators posing on Internet sites as a 14-year-old boy and his father interested in arranging a sexual encounter. Agents also allegedly found child pornography on Roberge's tablet computer.

Roberge faces three sex-related charges that could land him in prison for between 10 years to life. No trial date has been set.
