Canvassing Board Certifies Florida Voting Results

Secretary of State Ken Detzner says only unofficial returns from St. Lucie County were recorded since its official results were not received by Monday's deadline

Gov. Rick Scott and the other Republican members of the state canvassing board have certified Florida's voting results that gives President Barack Obama the state's 29 electoral votes.

Obama carried Florida a second time on Nov. 6 and Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson easily won a third term. Democrat Patrick Murphy's victory over incumbent Republican tea party favorite Allen West in a Palm Beach area congressional race was also certified Tuesday.

Secretary of State Ken Detzner says only unofficial returns from St. Lucie County were recorded since its official results were not received by Monday's deadline.

Both Detzner and Scott say they hoped to see improvements before the next election cycle to shorten some of the lines that created long waits for voters in some parts of the state.
