    Miami-Dade Police have identified the officer who was killed in an ATV crash Wednesday afternoon.

    The crash happened in the area of 211th Street and South Dixie Highway, officials said.

    Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said Brown was part of a group that was investigating complaints of illegal activity in the area including thefts and nuisances.

    "We lost one of our own," Perez told reporters as he fought back tears Wednesday evening. "This is a tragedy."

    Perez said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
