Man Flees Scene After Nasty Car Crash in Miami

Four hospitalized but fifth man in SUV rollover bolts before police arrive

Police are looking for a man who fled the scene of a frightening accident in Miami late Tuesday night that put four people in the hospital.

A white Ford Explorer, According to witnesses, a white Ford Explorer carrying five people swerved in front of a car on 17th Avenue in Miami around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

It lost control, rolled over, and crashed into a building as witness looked on in horror.

"The car swerved in front of me," said witness Nelvina Smith. "It spun out of control and went on two wheels, then all of a sudden it skid across the street and hit the building."

Smith watched on as three people -- two men and one woman -- were ejected from the SUV. When first responders got there, they found another victim still seatbelted inside the burning SUV.

All four victims were rushed to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

But officials say there should have been one more victim.

"According to witnesses," said Lt. Ignatius Carroll with Miami Fire Rescue, "they noticed one person who was able to barely crawl out of the vehicle, possibly speaking Spanish to the other people, maybe trying to wake them up, and then took off."

Police are now looking for that fifth victim to find out why he fled the scene of the accident. He is a Hispanic male between the ages of 19 and 20. He is approximately 5'8" - 5'9". Police say the SUV was speeding excessively and the roads were wet. Due to all the rain we've had in the last 2 days, they are urging people to drive cautiously.
