The Florida Panthers signed forward Jonathan Huberdeau to a six-year extension on Wednesday.
The new deal which kicks in following the 2016-17 season will have an average annual value of $5.9 million. With the extension, Huberdeau is now under team control through the 2022-23 season.
“Jonathan is a highly talented and dynamic player who is another important piece of our team’s young core”, said Florida President of Hockey Operations Dale Tallon. “In each of his last two seasons he has posted over 50 points and has developed into a key component of our team’s offense.
Huberdeau was a key contributor during Florida's franchise-best 2015-16 season. The 23-year old had 20 goals and 59 points last season which were both career bests. In addition, the forward played in all of Florida's playoff games and added three points there as well.
This has been a busy off-season for the Panthers as they look to keep their young core together for many years. Florida has already come to terms with Aaron Ekblad, Vincent Trocheck and Aleksander Barkov on long-term extensions. In addition, Florida brought back veteran Jaromir Jagr on a one-year deal.
The Panthers will begin the 2016-17 regular season on October 13th with a home game against the New Jersey Devils.
