Alleged Squatters Found With Grenades Out of Jail

The duo were released from jail after their Tuesday arrests

The man and woman arrested for living in a New York man’s vacation home with drugs, 10 grenades, a firearm and a pet pig are out of jail Thursday.

Darin James Febus, 37, and Miriam Scott Bailey, 32 were charged with third-degree grand theft auto and possession of marijuana, according to Judge Thomas J. Rebull. Febus was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bailey posted $6,000 bond and was released Wednesday. Febus was released on his own recognizance Thursday.

Febus’ bond was not set Wednesday because his public defender said there was a probable cause issue with his firearm charge.

“There is nothing, at least in the sworn testimony before the court, alleging Mr. Febus is a convicted felon,” he said in court.

Authorities said that Febus and Bailey were squatters and the drugs that were found in the home included cocaine and marijuana that apparently belonged to them.

The grenades were found in a drawer in the bedroom, police said.
