The U.S. Coast Guard says it has stopped searching for a swimmer on Monday because his body was found on a Fort Pierce beach.
A body matching the description of 26-year-old Surendra Sri Thakur was found by the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office around 7 a.m. on Monday, the Coast Guard said.
Next-of-kin identified Thakur, who was with his cousin swimming near Avalon State Park when the current caused them to drift away from each other. The cousin was rescued by a good samaritan on a surf board, while Thakur, who was not wearing a life jacket, was last seen struggling in the water.
The Coast Guard had launched a rescue operation.
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating.
